What is Adoption? Adoption is a legally permanent way of providing a new family for children who are unable to be brought up by their own birth parents. All the parental responsibilities and the duties of the birth parents are transferred by an Adoption Order made by the Court to the adoptive parents. This gives adoptive parents the same rights and responsibilities as all other parents.

Adopting Children in Cheshire

Every year, about 3500 children in care are adopted in England and Wales. In Cheshire each year, the number of children adopted from Cheshire's care is between 20 and 30. Also each year, Cheshire County Council's Children's Services approves about 30 adoptive families. Cheshire County Council needs adoptive families, especially for older children, brothers and sisters and for children with learning or physical disabilities. Some of these children will have had difficult experiences in their earlier years and this might mean that the children may still have some problems even once adopted.
